Data Analytics Engineering Intern – Summer 2020 |
Job Type: Internship Location: Philadelphia, PA |
Responsibilities • Python, MATLAB, and signal processing are mandatory • Strong background in data structures and algorithms • Experience in both front-end and back-end software development, especially with MATLAB • Experience in design, calibration, and implementation of analog and digital filters • Documentation and structured programming to support sustainable development practice • Debugging and code-reading skills Qualifications • Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution. • Must have at least 1 year of academic undergraduate studies completed or a sophomore status at minimum. • Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher • Must be available to work a minimum of 15 hours per week between the days/hours of Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm. • Strong publication record is a plus • JAVA experience is a plus • Understanding of data warehousing concepts such as data migration and data integration. Some experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure • Experience in implementing large scale software solutions is a strong plus • Experience with visualization tools such as Tableau or similar • Demonstrated skill in project planning and collaborating with large groups • Ability to describe challenges and solutions in both technical and business terms • Ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships at all organizational levels • A current graduate student in a master’s or PhD program is preferred. Responsibilities • Build data sets, exploring data, visualizations and modeling • Import, clean, and prepare data sets in SQL Server • Support staff and teams on data analysis and data science projects • Provide business insights using data, business intelligence, and predictive analytics • Document, organize, and communicate thoughts and ideas effectively • Be a team player — partnering with business units on projects • Participate in the development and adoption of a Symetra “Data Analytics Center of Excellence” focusing on best practices and building out and mentoring a network of self-service data preparation and citizen data scientists • Assist with other projects and research on an as needed basis |

Responsibilities • Work on a wide variety of problems in customer behavior modeling, content acquisition, value forecasting, and email and web experience optimization • Translate business objectives into actionable technical tasks • Iterate rapidly to select from a wide field of possibilities, while ensuring that conclusions are statistically significant and supported by sufficient data • Build tools, pipelines, and dashboards to support insight and optimization • Use a combination of SQL, R, and your own code to create analyses and models • Work closely with product managers, designers, and software engineers to implement new tests, tracking, and features on the Jobcase family of sites • Employ your creativity to find unconventional solutions and identify new opportunities Qualifications • 2+ years of experience with data cleaning, model fitting, prediction, and interpretation using common statistical toolkits or libraries • Experience with R, Python, SQL • Clear communication skills • Experience with web technologies and consumer behavior is a plus |
